First thing, R takes some of the turned timber into John at the workshop.
R collects the four frames from Cleeve Picture Framers for the Four Seasons commission which are destined for Australia. Of course unlike most artists I need the frames before I commence rather than on completion. They will really be quite sizeable paintings and balancing two on top of two making a very big square, it really looks quite monumental.
David comes to collect his painting.
There’s a lot happening in my studio at the moment, working on both paintings and experimenting with some three dimensional constructions,
Relieved that I have now completed the three A6 size little paintings on card for Jack & Jill the Irish charity for sick children for whom I painted the Herr Strauss last year.
Richard goes to collect me props for use in the new three dimensional pieces.
Always very exciting when trying out new ideas.
Working on the new pieces
this is such an enthralling process
all these new trains of thought
and very compulsive
Isaac’s birthday on Valentine’s day what better Valentines present could anyone have wished for.
E mail from the Coffee Arts Festival asking if I will be a judge for The Coffee Art Project, a charitable art competition linked with the theme of coffee.
Henrietta Kev and the boys arrive. We have a second birthday tea for Isaac after he and Samuel have unwrapped their presents. Its lovely to see them all.
H K I & S leave to travel to Kev’s sister’s this of course being the half term holiday. After R gets back from London (he’s been to deliver the painting I’m exhibiting at the Chelsea & Westminster Hospital with the Chelsea Arts Club group; although the painting has already been purchased by some doctor friends and collectors who are happy to loan it.
In the evening we go to supper at lovely Lady Arabella’s. She has a gallery in a converted barn in the grounds of their house. A wonderfully effervescent person and paints beautiful abstract works. Very interesting group, we are fourteen in all. I have the privilege of sitting at the top of the table next to John who is also a charming host, currently writing a book which he is researching as part of his studies at Oxford; a fascinating man, very interesting to talk to.
Working on large hare for the Cotswold Hare Trail. He’s enormous and stands taller than me. I am particularly doing it as he will be sold in aid of the National Star College.
Caroline and Simon come for supper and to collect their two miniatures they bought from the Christmas charity open studio. I always love getting their feedback on works in the studio and discussing the new pieces with them. They have a big collection of my work now and a very good eye. Simon being a designer himself.
R collects birch plywood panels for my four seasons commission.
R’s birthday with Richard and Lesley, Daphne and Michael and Catriona
Up to London for R’s second birthday meal at Henrietta and Kev’s. Nathan and Clementine also join us. Its a lovely meal prepared by Henrietta. We come home bearing a beautiful orange tree plant from H&K. Richard also has a set of rather cool wireless earphones from Nathan.
Working on Herr Schubert.
